EXPECTATIONS

Mequon Nature Preserve and its staff suggest that the following items should be completed in a timely matter in order to have a successful educational experience with us!

Before the field trip, teachers (or group leaders) should:

Complete and submit the “Field Trip Registration Form.”

Contact will be made from MNP staff to the teacher / group leader when the registration form is received.

Ensure that an appropriate student to adult ratio is planned.

Based on prior experience, MNP staff members suggest the following ratio of students to adults in order to keep students actively engaged: Grades K-2: 8 students to 1 adult, Grades 3-5: 12 students to 1 adult, Grades 6-8: 15 students to 1 adult

Communicate with parents / guardians and students about the appropriate clothing for outdoor activities.

MNP has limited amounts of rubber boots, winter boots, rain ponchos, winter jackets, hats and gloves. Staff will do its best to outfit students appropriately if they are unable to wear suitable attire.

Be sure that all students on the trip have parent / guardian permission to attend.

=

Have a way to contact the school and parents/guardians in case of medical emergency

=

Designate a person who can tend to any individual student requiring one-to-one supervision.

=

Discuss appropriate behavior with the students.

=

Inform all adults (teachers, volunteers, chaperones) that they are expected to take an active role in assisting in the administration and management of activities during the field trip.

Be aware that there is no smoking on the Mequon Nature Preserve grounds or anywhere inside or outside of the PieperPower Education Center.

Before the field trip, students will:

Have an understanding of the purpose of the field trip and how it relates to their school curriculum.

Be aware of acceptable behavior at MNP.

Please be sure to insist on respect for the facilities, equipment and nature!

Before the field trip, MNP staff members will:

Assume leadership roles for the structure and content of the field trip instruction.

Work with teachers before the field trip to insure that it supports the teacher’s curriculum and classroom goals.

Gather all supplies and materials needed for the field trip and make them available for all students.

Work collaboratively with teachers / group leaders to design alternative, indoor activities in case of inclement weather.

After the field trip, group leaders and volunteers will:

Assist MNP staff in collecting from the students all materials and equipment students that is MNP property.
